What this tool does
- The three common formats both ways: SRT, WebVTT and ASS/SSA.
- The shift, in milliseconds or seconds, forward or back, the one you came for.
- The stretch, for a frame-rate difference: subtitles right at the start and a minute off at the end are not fixed by a shift.
- The merge of several files: two halves of a film, or a translation added to the original.
- The format is recognised by content, never by extension: a .txt holding an SRT is an SRT.
What it does not do: Converting an ASS to SRT loses its styles, positions and effects: SRT cannot represent them. The other way round, we write an honest ASS, one default style, nothing invented. ASS only counts in hundredths of a second: converting to it rounds the thousandths down.
