Frequently asked questions
Ten questions, and answers you can check rather than believe: cut your network connection, open the “Network” tab, read the page's content security policy.
- Is it free?
- Yes, and with no account. This site is free and will stay free: the computing happens on your machine, it costs us nothing, and the site only serves static files. What is sold is something else: the package you install on your own intranet, for organizations that do not want to depend on any outside site. Nothing is held back here for that reason: it is the same software.
- Are my files really processed in my browser?
- Yes, and you do not have to take our word for it: cut your network connection once the page has loaded, or watch the “Network” tab of your browser. No request goes out when you drop a file in, nor while you work. Exactly one goes out when you save, to this domain: we record the number of operations carried out and how many pages each one produced, for the counter shown on the home page. Nothing else is written down: not who, not from where, not with which tool.
- Are there cookies, trackers or analytics?
- No cookie, no tracker, no third party: the content security policy forbids the page any connection to another domain, so an analytics tag could not technically work here. What remains is our page counter, whose log contains only a date and a number, and a browser that asks not to be tracked sends nothing at all.
- How do I merge two PDFs without sending them to a server?
- Open the “Merge PDFs” tool, drop your files in, put the pages in the order you want, then save. The assembly happens in the tab: no document leaves, and there is no server to receive them.
- How do I delete a page from a PDF?
- Open the “Delete pages” tool, drop the document in, click the pages to remove on their thumbnails, save. The file you get is rebuilt from the pages you kept: what was removed is not hidden underneath, it is gone.
- Is there a maximum file size?
- One hundred megabytes per file. That is not a commercial limit: everything happens in the memory of the tab, and past that the tab is what gives way. There is, on the other hand, no limit on the number of files, nor on the number of operations per day.
- Are password-protected PDFs accepted?
- No, they are refused rather than forced open. A tool that opens a protected document “anyway” teaches its users that protection means nothing. Remove the protection with the software that applied it, then come back.
- Can it be used in a company, offline, on an intranet?
- Yes. The whole site is a folder of static files: it can be put on an intranet, a network share or a USB stick, and it works unplugged. Nothing has to be installed on a server, and there is neither a database nor a service to watch over. We deliver that package, with no counter and without a single outgoing call, along with its security configuration and its SHA-256 fingerprint.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes, with one reservation: reordering pages by dragging relies on the browser's drag and drop, which is absent on mobile. The two buttons on each thumbnail move a page one step, and the editor (placing text, a signature, a stamp) works with a finger.
- What happens to a document after the export?
- Nothing: it never left your machine. Close the tab and nothing remains: no temporary file on a server, no download link lying around, nothing to ask anyone to erase.
Still a question?
What each tool does not do is written on its own page, and the privacy page sets out the three checks, the counter, and what we do not guarantee. Otherwise, write to us.
