What this tool does
- The password is asked for when you drop the file in. One password is tried: the one you type.
- The decryption is real, not bypassed. Strings, streams and object streams are decrypted before anything reads the structure: a document opened « anyway » would render pages of noise.
- The document is rewritten end to end, objects in sequence and a fresh cross-reference table. The file that comes out carries no trace of the encryption.
- The password never leaves the function that uses it: it is not stored, not put in an address, not sent.
- Printing and copying restrictions go with the rewrite. Many documents carry only those and already open without typing anything: they are an agreement between readers, not a lock.
What it does not do: You need the password. This tool guesses none, tries no list and does not look for the owner password: without the one that opens the document, nothing happens. And because the document is rebuilt, an electronic signature it carried does not survive: it vouched for those bytes, and they are no longer the same. A document whose password you do not have stays closed, here as anywhere else.
Nothing is uploaded. Cut your network connection once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
The other tools
- Merge PDFs: Several files, one document, in the order you decide.
- Organize pages: Reorder, rotate, delete, duplicate: the whole plan.
- Extract pages: Pick pages, take them out into a document of their own.
- Delete pages: Remove pages while looking at them; they are not left under the file you get.
