Open a RAW file (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG) and convert it to JPG

What this tool does

• CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, ORF, RW2, RAF, PEF, SRW — the files Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus and Panasonic produce.
• THE PREVIEW COMES OUT BYTE FOR BYTE: it is not re-encoded, so it does not lose a generation of compression. Same choice as cleaning a photo, and a test proves it.
• It is the LARGEST preview in the file that comes out, not the thumbnail: a RAW holds two or three, and the first one found is almost always a postage stamp.
• No dependency added: a RAW is a TIFF file, and we already knew how to read TIFF directories.
• Several files at once, and beyond one the lot leaves as a ZIP archive.

What it does not do: THIS IS NOT RAW DEVELOPMENT, and that is the limit that matters: what comes out is the preview the camera baked, with the white balance, the curve and the rendering it had chosen. You do not recover highlights, you do not rescue an underexposure, you change nothing. Anyone who wants that wants developing software, which demosaics the sensor data — something we cannot write honestly here. A file whose camera wrote no preview at all would give nothing, and the screen would say so.
