What this tool does
- Six positions, a size and an opacity: the size is a fraction of the image, so the setting behaves the same on a thumbnail and on twelve megapixels.
- The text is written in light with a dark outline: a white watermark disappears against a sky, a black one against a shadow.
- The tiled mode covers the whole image diagonally, the one used on a photo proof.
- The same watermark across a whole batch of images, in one gesture.
- EXIF metadata goes with the re-encoding.
What it does not do: A watermark is NOT protection. It can be cropped out, blurred, painted over, and there are tools that remove it far better than we apply it. It says “this copy came from me” and it discourages careless use, that is all, and that is already something. If an image must not circulate, the only measure that holds is not to send it.
