What this tool does
- The GPS POSITION, to within a few metres: that is, the address of your home, your school or your office, written into a photo you are about to put online.
- The make, the model and often the SERIAL NUMBER of the camera body, the one that ties together every photo taken with it.
- The date and time the shot was taken, to the second, even when the file has been renamed.
- The blocks found, with their size: EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, and what will remain if you clean the image.
- Nothing is modified, nothing is produced: you look. The report saves as text if you want it.
What it does not do: We read what is STANDARDIZED: EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, in JPEG and PNG files. A manufacturer can write whatever it likes in a “maker note” of its own design: we report that it is there and how big it is, we do not decipher it. Finding nothing here is therefore not proof that there is nothing in the file. Camera RAW files and iPhone HEIC are not read.
