What this tool does
- HEIC and HEIF from every iPhone since 2017, including the ones that announce themselves as “mif1” and that most readers turn away.
- Several photos at once: each comes out on its own, and beyond one the whole lot leaves as a ZIP archive.
- THE METADATA DOES NOT FOLLOW — not the camera, not the date, not the location your phone wrote into it. That is the point of converting here, and it is the opposite of what an online service does.
- The decoder runs inside your tab: the photo goes nowhere, not even while it is being converted.
- Once converted, the photo stays in the workshop: you can carry on without dropping it again — resize it, crop it, watermark it.
What it does not do: A HEIC IS DECODED AND RE-ENCODED: that is one more generation of compression, and there is no other way to turn an HEVC image into a JPEG. To PNG there is no loss, but the file becomes three to five times heavier. A Live Photo loses its motion, and from a HEIC holding several images only the main one comes out: this is not a contact sheet. The decoder weighs a megabyte and a half, and is only downloaded when the first HEIC is dropped in.
