What this tool does
- An embedded JPEG comes out BYTE FOR BYTE: this is not a conversion, it is an extraction, and no generation of loss is added to the scanner's own.
- Deflated images come out as PNG, written here by hand, without going through a library nobody reads.
- An image placed on thirty pages comes out once: the folder does not contain thirty duplicates.
- A minimum-size setting leaves out bullets, rules and logos, or keeps them, when the logo is exactly what you came for.
- Whatever cannot be read back with certainty is LEFT ALONE, and the report says how many and why: an image that comes out wrong is discovered by the person you sent it to.
What it does not do: This tool takes out the embedded images, not the pages: for a photo of each page, text included, use “PDF to images”. Anything encoded as JPEG 2000, CCITT fax, LZW, CMYK, indexed palette or anything other than eight bits per component is left in the document: each would need a whole decoder, and an image that comes out with the wrong colours is worse than a missing image. The report says exactly how many were left, and for what reason.
Nothing is uploaded. Cut your network connection once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
The other tools
- Merge PDFs : Several files, one document, in the order you decide.
- Organize pages : Reorder, rotate, delete, duplicate: the whole plan.
- Extract pages : Pick pages, take them out into a document of their own.
- Delete pages : Remove pages while looking at them, and they do not survive under the file you get.
