What this tool does
- JPEG, PNG and WebP in both directions: the three formats every browser can read and write.
- WebP often weighs half as much as JPEG at equal quality; a few older programs will not open it, and we say so.
- THE LOSS OF TRANSPARENCY IS ANNOUNCED BEFOREHAND: converting a cut-out PNG to JPEG fills the background with white, never black, and you know it before you click.
- The quality slider disappears for PNG, which is lossless: a control that does nothing teaches people not to read the others.
- A browser that cannot write a format says so, rather than handing you a PNG in disguise.
What it does not do: We convert what the browser can decode: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and, depending on the browser, AVIF. Camera RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW) and iPhone HEIC do not open here: decoding them would need a specialized library of several megabytes. An animated GIF is converted on its first frame only: the animation is lost, and the screen says so.
Nothing is uploaded. Cut your network connection once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
The other tools
- Merge PDFs : Several files, one document, in the order you decide.
- Organize pages : Reorder, rotate, delete, duplicate: the whole plan.
- Extract pages : Pick pages, take them out into a document of their own.
- Delete pages : Remove pages while looking at them, and they do not survive under the file you get.
